Teamwork Saves a Life on W. 31st Street

Life Saving Teamwork: Officers Johnson, Parker, Tekavec, and Von Duhn - November 2024 CPF Police Officers of the Month

On Saturday, August 31, 2024, Officers Ar’Shaun Johnson, Alexander Parker, Jakeb Tekavec, and Thomas Von Duhn responded to a call for a male shot in the 3800 block of W. 31st Street.

The officers located a male sitting on a bicycle, covered in his own blood, with part of his bone exposed. The man had been shot multiple times. Frantic, scared, and in shock, the victim tried to leave on his bicycle.

Officers Johnson and Parker worked to gain the victim’s trust and were able to keep him calm and talk to him through the first aid being provided. Officers Parker and Von Duhn each applied a tourniquet. Officers Tekavec and Johnson then assisted him onto a gurney once EMS arrived.

By working diligently as a team and gaining the trust of the victim, Officers Johnson, Parker, Tekavec, and Von Duhn were able to provide the first aid necessary to save the victim’s life.

It should also be noted that these four officers received the Special Commendation Award at this year’s Second District Community Relations Awards Ceremony for their actions.

It is because of their life-saving techniques and compassion for their fellow man that the Cleveland Police Foundation is honored to bestow upon Officers Ar’Shaun Johnson, Alexander Parker, Jakeb Tekavec, and Thomas Von Duhn our Police Officer of the Month Award for November 2024.
