The Cleveland Police Foundation joins the Cleveland Division of Police in honoring Patrol Officer Shane H. Bartek, Badge #18, whose life was tragically cut short in the line of duty on December 31, 2021.
Officer Bartek was appointed to the Cleveland Division of Police on August 19, 2019, as a member of the 145th Police Academy Class. He called his work as a police officer his “dream job” and served proudly in the 5th District.
On December 31, 2021, while in the parking lot of the Cross Creek Gardens Apartments on Rocky River Drive, Officer Bartek was approached by a female suspect attempting to carjack him. Demonstrating his courage, he took immediate police action, attempting to disarm the suspect. During the struggle, he was shot twice. Emergency responders arrived and transported him to Fairview Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect fled the scene but was later arrested and charged with aggravated murder.
Each year, members of the 145th Police Academy Class gather to honor Officer Bartek’s memory. Despite the cold and rain, their dedication reflects the strong bonds shared among those who serve together and their promise to never forget him.
