Cleveland Police-led community bike ride to engage and motivate students to come to school every day and achieve success, both academically and as citizens of their community. It will kick off at Louis Agassiz Elementary School and culminate with a Unity Clam Bake at Cleveland Public Safety Central.

About the Ride2Achieve Challenge Program
The Ride2Achieve Challenge Program is a citywide bike tour led by police officers from the Cleveland Division of Police. This is a collaboration between the Cleveland Police Foundation, the Cleveland Division of Police, Cleveland Metropolitan School District – Safe Routes to Schools, Bike Cleveland, Channel 3 News, ESPN Radio and Hot Cards.
The mission of the Ride2Achieve Challenge Program is to promote safer, healthier communities by encouraging students in grades K-8 to safely walk or ride their bicycles to school and to build community trust between police officers and our youth. As a Community of Champions, we strive to engage and motivate children in grades K through 8 to increase achievement in the areas of attendance, academic and citizenship.
To kick off National Walk to School Month, on Sunday, October 15, 2017, police officers from the Cleveland Division of Police, high school students from the Public Safety Career Pipeline Program, and community members will participate in a citywide bike tour. It will begin on the west side of Cleveland at Louis Agassiz Elementary School, with rest stops at Mound STEM Elementary School and Case Elementary School. The tour will culminate on the east side of Cleveland with a Unity Clam Bake at Public Safety Central sponsored by Catanese Classic Seafood, the Black Women’s Political Action Committee and the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County.
From October through March, elementary and middle school students (K-8) who attend schools within the City of Cleveland will have an opportunity to earn a bicycle for their achievement in attendance, academics and/or citizenship. Educators, faith-based community organizations and public safety representatives can nominate students who fall within one of the following five (5) Categories of Achievement:
1. Attendance – 93% District’s Goal (starting October 15)
2. Academic Achievement – Merit & Honor Roll
3. Most Improved (Attendance, Academics, Citizenship)
4. Chief of Police Citizenship Award (Character, Leadership, Service)
5. Essay – What actions can you take to make a difference in your community? –
(CPF will post on the website rubrics by grade level for assessment)
Applicants must electronically submit their applications by March 31, 2018. By April 15, 2018, 500 students will be invited to a bicycle rodeo to help kick off National Bike to School Month on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Cleveland Public Hall. Students will participate in a fun and engaging bicycle safety education program and receive their well-earned bicycles.
