Patrol Officer Carmen Hernandez has been named the Cleveland Police Foundation’s Police Officer of the Month for October 2024 and was nominated by one of her supervisors, Lt. David Skrletts, from the Nice Unit who provided the following narrative:
“Patrol Officer Carmen Hernandez was hired into the Cleveland Police Department on March 9, 1992. She was deployed to the Fourth District where she served with honor in both Patrol and the Community Services Unit (CSU) until 2012. In 2012 she transferred to the Second District and again served with honor in both Patrol, and CSU.
“In May of 2018, Carmen accepted an assignment as the timekeeper and administrator at the newly formed Neighborhood Impact Community Engagement (NICE) Unit. She performed the job competently and admirably and has been a key to the success of the Unit.
“As with any new venture, there were many, many bumps along the road but PO Hernandez was always able to adjust, and always able to keep me within the administrative line. It is fair to say she saved us from unnecessary hassles on many occasions.
“By Carmen doing the often unrecognized work of the Unit, she has allowed us to flourish into the Unit that we have become. I am proud of and thankful for the work that Carmen does. More importantly, I am happy to call her a friend. “
It is because of her devotion to her work and the community she serves that the Cleveland Police Foundation is indeed honored to bestow upon Patrol Officer Carmen Hernandez our Police Officer of the Month award for October 2024.
