One of the key missions of The Cleveland Police Foundation is the support of the charitable organizations that support Cleveland’s Blue Line. Over the next several issues we will be profiling those charities.
This month we focus on the Cleveland Police Mounted Unit Charitable Trust.
The bond between police officer and their horse is special, and these equine ambassadors also serve to strengthen the relationship between our police and citizens. The Cleveland Police Mounted Unit Charitable Trust is supported by individuals and organizations that value the unique contribution the Mounted Unit makes in our community, and provides financial support to ensure its continued service.
The Cleveland Police Mounted Unit is one of the oldest in the country, over 100 years old. Seven horses and rider comprise the unit today. Though helping to deter crime is the unit’s main function, its role in community relations cannot be underestimated. As Sergeant Mark Medwid states, “Wherever the police come out on the horses, the public comes out to talk to them.”

The Cleveland Police Foundation is the official charity for the Cleveland Division of Police and the only organization authorized to solicit charitable contributions on its behalf.
We provide funding for youth and community outreach programs, community policing and engagement initiatives, safety & crime prevention programs, and support the members of the Cleveland Division of Police to help them better perform their duties. Contributions to the CPF are tax deductible under section 501 (c)(3) of the IRS Code.
Thank you for supporting the mission of the CPF.
