On Saturday October 19, 2019 the 13th Annual City of Cleveland Gun Buy Back was held at the Cleveland Division of Police Third District Headquarters. This event is funded through a grant generously provided by ArcelorMittal to the Cleveland Police Foundation.
Members from the Cleveland Division of Police Ordnance Unit and Property Unit collected, inspected, and catalogued all the handguns and rifles. These firearms will eventually be prepared for disposal at the ArcelorMittal plant for recycling into new steel.
This year, 156 firearms were turned in for exchange of $100 gift cards provided by our longtime supporters and community partners, Dave’s Supermarket, Target and TrueNorth Shell.
We would once again like to thank ArcelorMittal and our other partners for their continued commitment to make our neighborhoods safer by assisting us with this event. The elimination of the chance of these weapons being used to commit violent crimes or possibly discharging accidently and causing harm or even death is imperative to the good of the community.
Finally, thanks to Cleveland Police Foundation board members Marcia Nolan and Rich DeChant for their support in attending this event and Niko Frangos of Rascal House for providing the food.
