Eighteen Refugee Children Receive Shoes and a Treat

Cleveland Cops for Kids and Community Policing purchased shoes and socks for 18 refugee students at Thomas Jefferson International Academy. We then treated the kids to Mitchell’s Ice Cream, giving some of them their first taste of ice cream!!

The money for the Shoes for Kids program comes from our Cops for Kids fundraisers and we cannot thank those who contribute to those events enough for allowing us the opportunity to help out these wonderful kids.

These kids came from the African countries of Burundi, Rwanda, and the Congo. They expressed that police officers in their native countries are not very nice and when they see them they’d run in the house and hide. They were very appreciative that police officers here do nice things for people.

Thank you to the Second District for helping us escort the kids and pick out their shoes. Thank you also to Bridget from Steelyard Payless for again taking care of us and saving us over $300!!
