Giving is contagious! And it all started with a little Christmas tree. I was in Target buying $1250 in gift cards, money donated by a very special “Secret Santa” for officers to give out to Clevelanders as random acts of kindness. While there, I needed to buy a Christmas tree for a young mother without a tree, Ms. Birdie Lucas. Hearing Birdie’s story, my friend from Target, Jasmin, donated the tree to Birdie.
As I was leaving the store I saw a good family friend, Brittany Doyle, who asked why I was buying a tree. After the explanation I left the store and was walking to my car when I received a call from Brittany’s mother, Janet Doyle. Janet decided that her whole family would help out a family that was in need of assistance during the Holiday.
Within 10 minutes I received a call from Sgt. Kristin Riley of the First District. Kristin had family that was the victim of a burglary, the Tokmenko family. The Tokmenkos lost almost everything important to them, including their three kids’ Christmas presents. Well, needless to say, the Tokmenkos’ Christmas was made a little brighter due to the generosity of the Doyle/Sponsellor/Speary family.
Please remember this story next year during the Christmas season, and do something special for someone in need. Merry Christmas!
