On Tuesday, July 28, 2015 members of the Second District, in company with Director of Public Safety Michael McGrath and Ward 15 Councilman Matt Zone, took a group of 35 kids from the near west side Boys and Girls Club on a fishing charter on Lake Erie. Joining us on the excursion was Plain Dealer outdoors writer Darcy Egan. Many of the kids had never been fishing and all but a few had never been on a boat. This was a wonderful opportunity …for youth from our neighborhoods to interact with and meet the officers of the Second District. A great time was had by all as we happened upon a school of yellow perch. The kids were excited and the officers had a great time teaching the youth about fishing.
Upon returning to shore, the kids enjoyed a cookout prepared by Bob Guttu of the Cleveland Police Foundation. The entire outing was sponsored by benefactors of the Cleveland Police Foundation, including the Ganley Auto Group, Samuel H. and Maria Miller Foundation and the Edward A. and Catherine L. Lozick Foundation.
