I had the honor in August to deliver Heroes Fund checks to two of our Heroes in Blue. Commander Johnson and Lt. Montenaro of the Fifth District accompanied me to the residence of an officer who is staying with her mother, ever since she lost everything due to a fire at her apartment. Her spirits were uplifted as we handed over the check and some homemade brownies and informed her that we are behind her and that better days are ahead.
I then continued on to Metro Hospital and met Fourth District Community Engagement Officer Brooklyn Barnes. We delivered the check and brownies to the wife of another officer who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident and just got out of the ICU Unit.
I felt the need to share this day with all of you not only for you to keep these officers in your prayers but also to show you how important the Heroes Fund is and your endless support of the Cleveland Police Foundation. I wish you all could have been with me to experience the gratitude and thankfulness of these officers and their families.
