On Saturday, November 5, 2022, the street that runs alongside of the Fifth District Headquarters, Utopia Avenue, was officially dedicated as Officer Shane Bartek Way. The ceremony was well attended by Officer Bartek’s family, fellow police officers, community members and local media. Officer Bartek was attacked and murdered this past New Year’s Eve on the far west side of Cleveland.
A special thank you goes out to Councilman Mike Polensek who spearheaded this effort with the blessings and cooperation of Council President Blaine Griffin, Chief Drummond, and Commander Johnny Johnson. It was a fitting tribute to an outstanding officer who really made a name for himself, and now that name, Officer Shane Bartek will be on display right outside the district where he worked.
Officer Shane Bartek will never be forgotten.
