If your call starts with “This isn’t really an emergency,” you shouldn’t call 911.
There is a non-emergency number for each city. Know yours! 911 is for life and death emergencies only.
Call 911 if:
- Someone is hurt and needs help
- Someone is hurting someone else
- There is smoke or fire
- Someone is taking something which is not theirs
DO NOT call 911 for:
- Keys locked in a car – unless a baby is in the car
- Your power going out
- Barking dogs
- Loud music
- FIREWORKS
- Animals locked in a car
