The 2nd District Community Relation’s Award Ceremony was held this past week at St. Joe’s/ OLA as members of the Cleveland Division of Police as well as citizens from the area were honored. The evening started with a delicious meal catered by Bruno’s Restaurant and served by members of the Cleveland Police Dispatch. After completing the meal the awards ceremony began with Mayor Jackson, Chief Calvin Williams, and numerous other city dignitaries taking their positions in the greeting line. Along with the numerous officers, and citizens recognized by the Community Relation’s group, myself, and Community Engagement Committee members Cyndi Rice, and Nancy Feighan presented The Cleveland Police Foundation’s Community Service Awards. Our officer receiving the award was Detective Janet Murphy who prides herself in seeking justice for victims of crime and is also a role model to her colleagues at the district. Also receiving our award were the Guardian Angels for their dedication and devotion to the 2nd District Community that they so proudly serve. Last but not least we recognized Mike and Pete Mitchell, of Mitchell’s Ice Cream for their commitment and dedication to the community as a whole, and their incredible generosity. On a side note they also provided ice cream for the event but were unable to attend. A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers and especially Sister Corita and Frank Scialabba from the Saint Augustine’s Center for not only their support but also for assisting in the set up and take down at the hall. I would also like to thank the Committee on behalf of The Cleveland Police Foundation for recognizing us with a Certificate of Appreciation. All in all it was a remarkable evening not only for the recipients but also for the proud families and caring members of the 2nd District Community. Congratulations to all the recipients and thank you for your service. (Bob Guttu C.P.F.)
